Monona Man Takes His Life.
Henry Theise, the proprietor of the Eaton restaurant, at Monona, committed suicide by drinking carbolic acid at his home Sunday evening. His body was found by members of the family yesterday morning. By a very strange coincidence Theise ended his life on the anniversary of the death of his little daughter who was killed by the cars at Postville two years ago.
Theise came to this city about a year ago and took charge of the restaurant. He was a married man and leaves two small children. He lived happily with his family and was in apparent good spirits Sunday. He was about 40 years old. The members of his family and his friends can give no plausible explanation for taking his life. His wife and children retired early Sunday evening. Later in the evening they heard Theise come home. He remained in the kitchen of the house for some time and then went to his room. When his wife went to call him yesterday morning she found him lying on the bed in the agonies of death. He had drank a large portion of carbolic acid and the fluid had burned his throat so that the physicians who were summoned were unable to inject a stomach pump and Theise died in horrible agony in a few hours.
As Sunday was the second anniversary of the accidental death of his little daughter of Theise, it is believed that he brooded over his loss and became so despondent that he took the deadly poison to end his sorrow.- Dubuque Times.

Suicide at Monona
Leader: Henry Thiese was found in his bed Monday morning, by his wife, unconscious. Medical aid was immediately called and on examination it proved that he had taken, some time in the night, or early in the morning and unaware to any of the family, a dose or carbolic acid. He was unconscious and so remained until 0 o’clock a. m. when he died.
Mr. Thiese about a year ago came here from Postville and purchased of F. L. Eaton the stock of goods and restaurant business. So far as known he has carried on a fair business, and appeared to be doing as well as could be expected, His family relations and his business venture were of a satisfactory character.
The evening previous be was in his usual happy mood, and joined with his patrons in the store in the parsing of jokes, evidently in the enjoyment of a free turn of mind. The impression prevails in his family that he took the acid by mistake, that he went to the cupboard to get a bottle of peppermint and in lieu took the carbolic acid bottle and carried it to his room. For what reason or why he committed suicide is a mystery, that undoubtedly will forever remain a mystery.
