Monona, Ia. - Funeral services for Charles Meier, 82, who died at his home Thursday, were held here Monday at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church with the Rev. R.C. Schlueter, pastor, officiating. Burial was in the Lutheran Cemetery.
Mr. Meier was born May 25, 1861, on a farm near Garnavillo, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Christian Meier. He was married to Mary Wahls May 10, 1883, at Clayton Center and they made their home on a farm near National for 37 years, retiring in 1920 to Monona.
Mr. Meier served as a member of the Monona school board for 15 years and as councilman for four years. He was a member of the National school board for 30 years, serving as secretary for seven years. He was also a former secretary-treasurer of the Clayton County Agricultural Society.
Surviving are his widow; four daughters: Hortense of Monona, Mrs. George H. Vollmer of Eau Claire, Wis., and Mrs. L.D. Daily and Leona, both of Rockford, Ill.; one son, Dr. G.J. Meier of Clarion; four grandchildren and one brother, A.L. Meier of Postville.
