Mrs. Joseph Schneider, Sr., who has been making her home with her daughter, Mrs. Alex Baumgartner, for some time recently, died Wednesday morning of this week. The lady, who was well along in years, had passed a greater part of her life near Elgin and leaves a large number of relatives and children to mourn her death. The funeral will be held Sunday afternoon at one o'clock at the Apostolic church and burial will be made in the cemetery there. We will print an extended sketch of the lady's life in next weeks issue.

Mrs. Mary Schneider was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Nicklaus Phfarrer and was the eldest of 12 children. She was born in Bern, Switzerland, in the year 1836 and came to this country with her parents in 1853. The voyage across the ocean consumed six weeks time and there was much sickness due to an epidemic of cholera on the boat. The family located in Clayton county and ever since she has made her home there.
In the year 1858 she was united in marriage to Joseph Schneider, a pioneer, and to them 12 children were born eight of whom are living, namely: Joseph and Louis, of West Bend; Rachel Frieden, Rosina Baumgartner, Louisa Marti, Celia Schneider, Ben and Fred Schneider, of Elgin; and one stepdaughter, Mrs. Mary Hunder, of Oelwein.
She was a patient, kind and loving mother, ever ready and willing to aid and give comfort to those in need. She was a faithful follower of Christ and a true and devout member of the Apostolic church. She leaves to mourn besides her children, 56 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, one brother, Gotfred Phfarrer, of Hawarden, together with many friends.
She was 86 years, 8 months and 11 days old when she departed this life. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Apostolic church east of town and the remains were laid to rest in the cemetery there.
Those from out of town who attended the funeral were: Peter Hodel, John Roche, Casper Blunier, Frank Blunier, John Beer and wife, Philip Legel and wife, Lydia Bucher, Will Beer and family, Mrs. John Zimmermann, Mrs. Elmer Blunier, all of Roanoke, Ill.; Dan Habergar, Mary Habergar, Sarah Imhof, Harry Zangg, Emma Fehr, Louis Schneider and family, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Schneider and children, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Banwart, of West Bend, Iowa; John Habegar, of Madison, South Dakota; Mr. and Mrs. Godfred Phfarrer, of Hawarden, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Deerhammer, of Oelwein; and Mrs. Harry Wander, of Oelwein.
