Luana, Ia. - The funeral of Mrs. Fred Seeland, 78, was held at St. John's Lutheran Church here with the Rev. Paul Adix, pastor, officiating. Burial was in the cemetery at Farmersburg. Mrs. Seeland died at her home here following a several weeks' illness with heart trouble.
As Elsie Dorothea Johanna Bade Seeland, she was born Dec. 2, 1861 at Mechlenberg, Schwerin, Germany, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Bade. Following the death of her father, she accompanied her mother and a sister to America in 1881. She was married in Clayton County to Fred Seeland on Feb. 20, 1902 and they farmed in Farmersburg Township for several years, later moving to a farm near LeRoy, Minn. Several years later they moved to Cresco and in 1922, they came to Luana, since her home.
Surviving are her husband; three step-children, Mrs. Jay Sawdy and Mrs. Walter Scharnweber, both of Rochester, Minn., and Elmer of Elkader; one sister, Mrs. Minnie Kluth; and 11 grandchildren.
