McGregor, Ia. - The ashes of Mrs. Loyal Sawyer, the former Bessie Blackburn, of McGregor, were brought here Wednesday from Summit, N.J., for interment in Pleasant Grove Cemetery. Funeral services will be held at the grave Friday afternoon with the Rev. G.F. McMichael, M.E. pastor, officiating. Her husband and a daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth Snodgrass, both of Summit, will be here for the service.

Mrs. Sawyer was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Riley Blackburn, who for many years conducted a fruit farm near McGregor. After leaving here, Mr. Blackburn was in the furniture business in Postville for a number of years.

~Dubuque Telegraph-Herald, Thursday evening edition, May 23, 1940
~Note: year of death is assumed to be 1940 since that is when the ashes were brought to McGregor for burial, but she may have died in a prior year
