Mr. Fett came to America with his parents at the age of 20 in 1883. They settled in Iowa, moving to a farm in Linton Township in Allamakee County. For six years he worked at the Charles Rengenhausen farm and for another four years he was employed by others as a farm hand. After these ten years of working for others, he acquired a place of his own northeast of Watson, Iowa and farmed for 27 years. For one year he and his wife made their home with their daughter Mrs. Gilbert Wiethorn and her family and then spent the remaining seven years of his life in their new home in Monona, Iowa.
In February 1892, Fred was united in marriage to Emma Schlitter. To this union were born five children, Arthur who died at the age of seven months old, Alfred, Mrs. Clara Wiethorn, Mrs. Lillie Aird, and Mrs. Adaline Mielke. Alfred is married and living at home and the three daughters are living on farms north and east of Monona.
There remains to mourn his death the widow, his father Frederick Fett, four children, three grandchildren, two brothers, Charles Fett of Monona and Rudolph Fett of Dubuque, Iowa and many friends and relatives.
Mr. Fett was a member of the Lutheran Church in Germany. He proved himself to be a good friend and neighbor and was loved and respected by all who knew him. He bore his afflictions in a most manly and cheerful way. As long as he was able to speak and be up, he was always ready with a kindly word and smile for all who came to see him.
NOTE:
Fredrick Herman Fett was the son of Friedrich Gottlieb Fett and Henrietta Dorothea Schroeder.
