Frau Maria Radloff

Born Henning on September 4, 1837, in Wegezia, county Anklam, the Bommern Province in Germany. She married her husband Fritz Radloff in 1859. He died February 10, 1915. The marriage was blessed with 9 children one of which precedes it’s parents to eternity.

In 1881, the deceased moved with her husband and children to America and came to Clayton Center, Iowa. Later they moved to Nebraska for a few years, but returned to Clayton Center.

In 1904, she moved with her husband to her daughter and son-in-law Gustav Kuhse, with whom they moved to Postville 6 years ago and remained until her death. She left her children behind. The departed was a loving and caring mother to her children, whose memories will always be a blessing.

After her short sickness, the Lord freed her from her earthly sufferings on Monday morning, May 20, 1918 at 20 minutes after 10 o’clock. Her death is mourned by the following children and their families: Mrs. Gustav Kuhse here; Carl Radloff, Farmersburg, Mrs. Bertha Idhe, Minnesota, Mrs. Johanna Klingenberg, Elkader, Mrs. Alvina Strien, Farmersburg, Mrs. Mathilda Heins, Monona, Fritz Radloff, Garner, Hermann Radloff, Volga City. She also leaves behind 47 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.

She was a faithful member of our ladies group and reached the age of 80 years, 8 months and 16 days old. Her funeral was held today, Thursday afternoon at 2 pm at St. Pauls Church and holy graveyard.

Source – This seems to be either from a local Postville, Iowa, newspaper or a church newsletter. It was originally written in German and I had it translated by a cousin and daughter who know German.

Fritz Radloff of Garner was my grandfather
