Irma Catherine Meyer
Irma Catherine Meyer, 86, Monona, Iowa peacefully passed away on Sunday, July 21, 2013.
She was born January 31, 1927 in Garnavillo, Iowa, to parents, Edward and Veronica (Berns) Hoeger. Irma received her education at St. Joseph’s Catholic School in Garnavillo.
On February 5, 1946, Irma was united in marriage to Clarence Joseph Meyer at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Garnavillo. Eight children were born to this union. Irma has been living on a farm east of Monona since 1951.
Irma’s greatest love and devotion was to her family and to her faith. She loved gardening, playing cards, being with family and friends, and spending winters in Florida.
Surviving is her husband of 67 years, Clarence; 8 children, Vernon (Connie) Meyer of Columbus, Ohio, Dan Meyer of Oelwein, Father Steve Meyer of Webster City, Tom Meyer of Monona, Mary (Steve) Berns of Jesup, Leon (Anne) Meyer of Monona, Nancy Hunter of West Des Moines, and Ron (Tonya) Meyer of Roland; 25 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; a brother, Gerald Hoeger of Garnavillo and a sister, Veronica (John) Hageman of New Vienna.
Irma was preceded in death her parents Edward and Veronica Hoeger; her brothers, Hermie, Lambert and Vincent Hoeger and sisters, Martha and Loretta Hoeger, all of Garnavillo.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 24, 2013 from 5-8 p.m. at Leonard-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Monona, Iowa, where there will be a 5 p.m. rosary and an 8 p.m. scripture service led by her son, the Rev. Stephen Meyer. Visitation will also be held one hour before mass time at the church on Thursday.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 25, 2013 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Monona, Iowa.
Burial will follow at St. Patrick Catholic Cemetery, Monona, Iowa.
Leonard–Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Monona, Iowa, is in charge of arrangements.
