Emelyn "Emmy" Rose Lenth
Emelyn “Emmy” Rose Lenth, 88, of Monona, Iowa died Wednesday, July 10, 2013 at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon, Iowa.
She was born on September 15, 1924 to Otto and Hulda (Peters) Pape in Readlyn, Iowa. Emmy was confirmed at St Paul Lutheran Church in Monona, Iowa. She graduated from Monona High School in 1942 and then worked at Interstate Power Company until she was married.
Emmy was united in marriage with Lorenz R. “Sleepy” Lenth on March 4, 1946 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Monona, Iowa. Five children were born to this union, Pamela, Rick, Kim, Gary and James.
Emmy was a city employee and a homemaker. She helped with the startup of the Butterfly Garden, she taught Sunday School at St. John Lutheran Church in Luana, served on the church council, WELCA, Rural Women’s Club, she was a Cub Scout Leader, belonged to the Garden Club and various card clubs. Emmy enjoyed traveling, flower gardening, golfing, playing cards, crafts, reading and spending time with family and friends.
Emmy is survived by her husband of 67 years, Lorenz R. “Sleepy” Lenth; her children, Pamela (Thomas) Huddon of Redding, California, Rick Lenth of Luana; Kim Lenth of Luana, Gary (Corinne) Lenth of Monona and James (Ann) Lenth of Welton, Iowa; 7 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren and a sister, Carol (Robert) Schillig of Robins, Iowa.
Emmy was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Mervin Pape and two sisters, Marjie Markey and Dorothy Radloff.
Visitation will be Tuesday, July 16, 2013 from 10-11 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church, Luana, Iowa. Funeral Services will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 16, 2013 at St. John Lutheran Church in Luana Iowa. Inurnment will follow at the St. John Lutheran Cemetery in Luana, Iowa.
