Bonnie J. Smith, 80, of Elkader, died Monday, June 17, 2013, at the Elkader Care Center.
Visitation was before services at the church.
Funeral service were Thursday, June 20, at Peace United Church of Christ, Elkader, conducted by Pastor Andrea Mericle. Inurnment was at Smithfield Cemetery, rural Monona. Leonard Funeral Home in Elkader was in charge of arrangements.Bonnie was born Oct. 21, 1932, the third child of Gretchen (Walker) and Orville Entwisle on the family farm in Fairfield Township, Fayette County. Bonnie was baptized at Peace United Church of Christ in Elkader. She graduated from Central High School in 1950. She then worked for Northwestern Bell in Elkader, Southern Bell in Gulfport, Miss. and Pacific Bell in Los Angeles, Calif.
Bonnie was united in marriage to Edward H. Smith at Peace United Church of Christ in Elkader on Oct. 15, 1953. Following his death, she worked for the Clayton County Assessor for 27 years, retiring in 1995.
She had many hobbies; one was woodworking, where she made small sized furniture that she designed.
Survivors include brothers and sisters, Hazel Koehn of rural Farmersburg, Dale Entwisle of Robins, Darlene (Duane) Tieden of Elkader, Rita (Daniel) Carrier of Guttenberg, Larry (Kathryn) Entwisle of Marion and Judy Robbins of Strawberry Point; two sisters-in-law, Grace Rash of Eldora and Selma Gunderson of Clinton; many nieces and nephews (who were a very important part of Bonnie’s life) and numerous friends.
Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1966; one brother, Derald Entwisle; brothers-in-law, Ray Koehn, Laverne Robbins and one sister-in-law, Janice Entwisle.
