Irene H. Meyer

Irene H. Meyer, 90, of Garnavillo, died Friday, June 21, 2013, at the Elkader Care Center.

Visitation was before services at the church.
Funeral services were Monday, June 24, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Garnavillo, conducted by Rev. Hillary Burns-Kite. Interment was at Garnavillo Community Cemetery.

Arrangements were handled by Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Garnavillo.

Irene was born on May 21, 1923, in Luana to William and Ella (Funk) Moeller.

Irene received her education from the local country school near Luana. On June 7, 1947, Irene was married to Lloyd Meyer at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Luana. This union blessed them with a son, Larry. For many years, Irene farmed beside her husband as they raised their son together. Irene was very involved with St. Peter’s Church from teaching Sunday School to working with the ladies organizations. She performed cleaning services for the local bank and motel for many years and she was an avid gardener. Irene had a green thumb and was very talented in growing vegetables and making her home look beautiful with a wide variety of flowers.

Irene is survived by her son, Larry (NaDyne) Meyer; two grandchildren, Jeremy (Jennifer) Meyer and Katie (Brian Bankes) Meyer; six great-grandchildren, Lorelai Meyer, Gracie Sprankle, Ryan Hall, Loreli Hall and Conner Meyer; one sister, Dolores Fischer and many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one sister; three brothers and one brother-in-law.
