Henry Thiese - It was quite a surprise to our community when the sad news became known that Henry Thiese had died very suddenly at his home in Highland township on Monday morning, Dec. 9th. [1912] His lifeless body was found by his wife and sister-in-law, who had been away from home but a few hours. Death was caused by a disease of the heart.
The departed Clayton county child, being born near Guttenberg Nov. 5th, 1871. After leaving school he worked as a farm hand. As such he worked nineteen years for the Henry Brandt family, near Garnavillo, which certainly shows that he was a faithful laborer.
In December, 1908 he was married to Margarethe Volquardts. One child, Ewald, was born to this union. The young wife and infant child will greatly miss the dear husband and father. He also leaves his aged parents and one sister, Mrs. Anna Froelich, of Guttenberg; three brothers, John, of Garnavillo; Herman, of Read township, and William of South Dakota, and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Franke at the house and Friedens church on Thursday, Dec. 12th. Interment was made at the East Side cemetery.
