Jackson Turner

Jackson E. Turner, 88, Monona, Iowa died Wednesday, May 1, 2013 at Elmwood Assisted Living in Fremont, Ohio.

He was born in Elkader, Iowa, on March 19, 1925, to John and Edna (Kurth) Turner. He was a 1942 graduate of Elkader High School. Following graduation, he served in the Army Air Corps as a pilot in the Philippines during World War II, and was honorably discharged in 1946.

Jackson graduated from The University of Chicago and worked as the manager of Graphics, Inc. in Calmar, Iowa. He drove a school bus for many years, served as manager of the Monona Airport and was active in its creation. Jackson was an active member of his church and sang in the choir for many years. Along with flying, he enjoyed photography, camping, and traveling, especially in the west. He was a long-time member of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association and the Experimental Aircraft Association.

On Oct. 19, 1944, he married Rose Clark, and she survives along with their children, Susan Schulz of Hiawatha, Iowa and Mark (Deanna) Turner of Clyde, Ohio; 4 grandchildren, Jesse Schulz, Damon Schulz, Emily Turner, and Adam Turner and one great-grandchild, Fox Richardson.

In addition to his parents, Jackson was preceded in death by his infant sister, Jacqueline and his brother, Robert.

Visitation will be Thursday, May 16, 2013 from 4-7 p.m. at Leonard-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Monona, Iowa and one hour before services at the church on Friday.

Funeral Services will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 17, 2013 at Living Faith United Methodist Parish, Monona, Iowa with Rev. Dennis Hopes as the officiant.

Burial will be at East Side Cemetery, Elkader, Iowa with Military Rites.

Leonard-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Monona, Iowa is helping the family with the arrangements.
