Added by S. Ferrall 6/20/2013:

Aunt Harriet Bayless, who has been bedfast since Easter Sunday last when she fell and fractured a hip, passed peacefully away at the home of Mr. and Mrs. H.J. Schuette in this city at 5:45 o'clock on Monday evening, her death resulting from no specific cause other than that of her advanced age, as she lacked but a few weeks of 89 years.

Harriet Bayless was born at Woodstock, Ohio, October 9, 1843. On February 5, 1862, she was united in marriage to Frank D. Bayless at Concord, Minn., after which they moved to Elkader, Iowa, where they resided for many years.

She was the mother of four children - Charles, John, Frank and Fred, all of whom save Fred preceded her in death.

She was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Dresser, early residents of this locality, and of a family of 12 children she is survived by but one sister, Mrs. Rozella Webb of this city.

For the past ten years Mrs. Bayless has made her home here with her niece, Mrs. H.J. Schuette, where she has been most tenderly and affectionately cared for. She was of a genial and sunny disposition and made many friends who will learn with sorrow of her passing.

The funeral will be held today, from the H.J. Schuette home at 1:30 and at 3 o'clock from the Congregational church in Elkader, Rev. R.F. Galloway officiating.

Interment will be made in the family lot in the Elkader cemetery.
