Added by S. Ferrall, June 20, 2013:

Henry Marting, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gerhardt Marting and his wife Wilhelmina (nee Meerhoff) was born in Farmersburg township, Clayton county, Iowa, on January 20th, 1862. Soon after he was baptized and was received into the membership of God's children. He received his christian instruction in the Ev. Lutheran church at Ceres, and was confirmed on Easter day in 1875.

On the 20th of February, 1890, he was united in marriage to Miss Anna Meyer and they moved onto a farm about four miles southwest of Luana. On the 10th day of January, 1923, his wife died.

The deceased had been a member of St. John's congregation of Luana for many years and was interested in its welfare.

Up to the last year the departed was permitted to enjoy good health and he often mentioned the fact. However, since March of the past year he had been troubled with a weak heart, and about three weeks ago he entered the Postville Hospital. ON the 7th of March he suffered a stroke of paralysis which deprived him of his speech, and on Tuesday evening, March 14, the Lord delivered him and as we confidently hope, He bid him enter into eternal rest.

His earthly pilgrimage lasted 71 years, one month and 24 days.

He leaves to mourn his loss seven children, viz: Alvin, who resides on a farm at Watson; Mrs. Alvin Vogt, Orlando and Vern, who reside on farms in Farmersburg township; Milton, who resides on a farm near West Union; Harvey on a farm south of Luana; and Elmer, who is on the old home farm. There is also one brother, Christian Marting, of Clayton township, and one brother preceded him in death in 1927. There are also four sisters living: Mrs. John Bierbaum of Griswold; Mrs. Henry Ziegler of Luana; Mrs. Herman Werger of National, and Mrs. Fred Kersten of McGregor; also seven grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends.

Deceased was an honorable and upright man, a good neighbor, friend and citizen, and all who came within the circle of his acquaintance will sorrow that he is no more.

Funeral services were held on last Friday afternoon from the home and at the Lutheran church in Luana, Rev. H.P. Kumpf officiating. Interment was made by the side of his wife in the Luana Lutheran cemetery*. May he rest in peace.
