Betty Lou Leuchtenmacher
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. December 19, 2012 at St. John Lutheran Church, Farmersburg, IA, for Betty Leuchtenmacher, 83, of Elkader, who died Sunday, December 16, 2012, at the Elkader Care Center. Visitation was held from 3 to 6 p.m. December 18, at Leonard Funeral Home, Elkader, and one hour before services at the church on Wednesday. Interment was December 19, 2012 at East Side Cemetery, Elkader.
Betty Leuchtenmacher was born May 29, 1929, on the family farm, near St. Olaf, to Albert and Lucinda (Gottschalk) Glawe. She was baptized and confirmed at Peace United Church of Christ, in Elkader.
She was united in marriage to Clifford Leuchtenmacher on June 20, 1947, at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Elkader. They farmed for 40 years near St. Olaf until they retired and moved to Elkader where they lived for several years. Betty was an active member of St. John Lutheran Church in Farmersburg. She was also a member of the Women’s Auxiliary in St. Olaf and also belonged to the Friendly Neighborhood Club and Senior Citizen Club. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed playing cards and playing Bingo with her friends.
Survivors include her children, Carol (Steve) Ortman of Marquette, Pat (John) Suhr of St. Olaf, Sandra (Robert) West of Chicago, IL, Dennis Leuchtenmacher of Elkader, Nancy (Bill) Beckett of Prairie du Chien, WI, David Leuchtenmacher of Elkader, Danny Leuchtenmacher and friend Katie of MO, Johnny Leuchtenmacher of Elma, Cindy Senner and friend Rick of Hiawatha; 23 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; numerous step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; one sister, Bonnie Jeffery of Arlington, TX; sisters-in-law, Wilma Glawe of Garnavillo, Marlene Glawe of St. Olaf, Ellen Bente of Elkader; numerous nieces, nephews and many friends.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Clifford in 1996; brothers, Raymond in infancy, Harvey, Lloyd, Bernelle and Verdine Glawe; sisters, Darlene in infancy, Gladys Coobs, Lucille O’Neal and Vera Palas; two sons-in-law, Loren Scherf and Dennis Senner; and one great-grandchild, Jacob Scherf.
