Vernon Lloyd Kelley

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., August 30, 2012 at Leonard-Muller Funeral Home & Crematory in Manchester, IA, for Vernon Lloyd Kelley, 93, of Edgewood, who died Monday, August 27, 2012, at the Edgewood Convalescent Home. Visitation was held from 2 to 7 p.m. August 29, 2012 at Leonard-Muller Funeral Home & Crematory, Manchester, and one hour before services on Thursday, with interment in the Oakland Cemetery, Manchester.

Vernon Lloyd Kelley was born February 6, 1919, in Edgewood, to Asa S. and Georgiana (Elsbury) Kelley. Vernon attended rural school.

On July 28, 1945, Vernon was united in marriage to Verna Mae Johnston in Arkansas. Six children were born to this union.

He served in the United States Army, Pacific Theater in New Guinnea, with the 132nd Triangular Division. The couple farmed in Clayton and Delaware Counties in their early years; then Vernon worked as a custodian at Starmont Community Schools. They retired near Arlington and have been living at Yankee Settlement in Edgewood for the past seven years. Vernon lived a short time at the Edgewood Nursing Home. He loved playing cards, hunting and fishing. His family was his pride and joy.

Survivors include his wife Verna, of Edgewood; his children, Bill (Ruth) Johnston of Carson City, NV, Edgar (Linda) Kelley of Mission, TX, Linda (John) Millard of Floral City, FL, Joyce (Steve) Everett of Edgewood, Stephen (Lois) Kelley of Manchester, Shirley (Mark) Possehl of Grundy Center; 23 grandchildren; 54 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren and a brother Floyd Kelley of Manchester.

Vernon was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Esther Winistorfer, Grace Brady, Doris Winistorfer; brothers, Harold Kelley, Delbert Kelley and grandchildren, Chad Kelley, Jeff Kelley and Lance Millard.
