Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., September 11, 2012 at Leonard Funeral Home in Elkader, Iowa for Phyllis Bernice Thein, 66, of Ossian, formerly of Elkader, who died Friday, September 7, 2012, at Ossian Senior Hospice, Ossian, Iowa. Visitation was held from 10 a.m. until service time September 11, 2012 at Leonard Funeral Home, Elkader, with interment at Garnavillo City Cemetery, Garnavillo, Iowa.

Phyllis Bernice Thein was born August 19, 1946, to Carroll and Dorothy (Waterman) Thein Jentz.

For many years, Phyllis lived at Breezy Summit Group Home and worked at R.I.S.E., both in Elkader. Due to health reasons, in May 2010, she moved to and resided at Ossian Senior Hospice.

Phyllis loved shopping with her family, drinking root beer, eating pizza and hot fudge sundaes. She liked watching “Days of Our Lives”. Pink was her favorite color. Phyllis loved cats and she always enjoyed family celebrations.

Survivors include her sister, Elaine Weidemann of West Union, two step-sisters, Shirley Jentz of Edgewood and Gearldine Jentz of Edgewood; nephew, Kenneth (Rose) Clemen of Springville; niece Sherri (Jeffrey) Shields of West Union; two great-nephews, Derek and Seth Shields and a great niece, Kenzie Shields.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents and brother Carroll Thein.
