Ardith L. Stoner, 85, of Strawberry Point, Iowa, joined her Savior in glory on Wednesday, August 15, 2012, following a short illness at the Strawberry Point Lutheran Home. Prior to moving to the Lutheran Home, she enjoyed living at the Gernand Retirement Village.

Ardith was born on December 8, 1926, at home in rural Newman Grove, Boone County, Nebraska, to Wilhelm and Mary Alta (MacDonald) Becker. She was one of 6 children and was baptized and confirmed in her faith at South Branch Lutheran Church in Newman Grove, Nebraska. She attended rural country school #65 through the 10th grade after which she moved to Strawberry Point to live with her sister, Ruth and Joe Newcomb. While living in Strawberry Point and attending high school, Ardith became good friends with Mary Emma (Stoner) Kramer and met her future husband, Mary’s brother Clayton. She graduated from Strawberry Point High School in 1944.

Ardith was united in marriage to Clayton Stoner on December 5, 1945, at the South Branch Lutheran Church in Newman Grove, Nebraska. Together they farmed and milked cows, and were true partners in every sense, sharing the work, worries, rewards, and joys of a long, happy marriage. In 1955 they moved to a farm six miles north of Strawberry Point which they purchased and farmed together until Clayton’s death in a tractor-rollover accident in 1995. They attended church at St. Sebald Lutheran Church in rural Strawberry Point.

Ardith was a talented seamstress and a wonderful gardener, providing clothes for her family and keeping them fed from the garden with all the canning and freezing of produce. She made wonderful dill and sweet pickles, embroidered, braided rugs, and made many afghans and quilts for her kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids.

Ardith taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. She also served on the Altar Guild for St. Sebald for 30 plus years. Her reliance on her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ sustained her through her whole life.

Survivors include her three children, Earl (Linda) Stoner of Strawberry Point, Warren (Linda) Stoner of Tama, and Kristine (David) Morarend of Strawberry Point; 8 grandchildren, Heather (Ted) Schuler, Dr. Jody (Shawn) Harmsen, Jennifer (Dan) Zomchek, Megan (Seth) Crosby, step-grandson, Kelly (YoungUn) Gorman, Tim (Kendra) Stoner, David Stoner, Sarah (Greg) Jenkins, and Nathan (Jenni) Morarend; great-grandchildren, Friederich and Clarence Schuler, Hannah and Micah Stoner, Katy and Jack Harmsen, Bradyn Zomchek, and Ella Morarend; step-great-grandchildren, Susan and Kevin Lee, Killian and Keenan Gorman, and Adam Gleason; her two sisters, Ruth Newcomb of Tallahassee, Florida, and Catherine Letchworth of Jesup; and one brother, Art (Shirley) Becker of Beaver City, Nebraska.

Ardith was preceded in death by her husband, Clayton; her parents, Wilhelm and Mary Alta Becker; and her brothers, Francis and William Becker.
