Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., July 9, 2012, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Volga, Iowa for Delores Mary (Wilker) Spielbauer, 83, of Cedar Falls, formerly of Volga, who died Wednesday, July 4, 2012, at Cedar Falls Lutheran Home Assisted Living Center, Cedar Falls. Visitation was held from 2 to 5 p.m. July 8, 2012 at Leonard Funeral Home in Elkader and one hour before mass at the church on Monday. Burial followed at the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Volga, IA.

She was born June 3, 1929, at Volga, to William and Rosena (Lenth) Wilker. Delores attended country school in rural Volga and graduated from Volga High School. She attended one year of Jr. College in Elkader, and taught in one room schools near Volga and Dubuque for four years where they lived until they moved to their first farm.

She met Joseph Spielbauer at a dance at Lakeside Ball Room in Guttenberg, on Halloween night 1946, and they were united in marriage on May 8, 1950, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Volga. Four children were born to this union.

Delores was an active member of Sacred Heart Church in Volga, the Volga Legion Auxiliary, and the Highland Good Will Club as well as a 4-H leader.

The couple rented their first farm in North Buena Vista in 1955, and moved to the farm in rural Volga in 1956, where they raised dairy cattle, pigs, chickens, horses, and their four children. They farmed for 35 years before moving to Prairie Du Chien, Wisconsin, where they lived for 22 years before moving to a retirement center in Cedar Falls, Ia.

Delores enjoyed quilting, braiding rugs, crocheting, gardening, reading, doing crossword puzzles, mushroom hunting, fishing, going to Texas in the winters (which they did for 24 years), beating Joe at pool, dancing, and spending time with her children and grandchildren. Her cherry cheese cake was a necessity at family gatherings! During the years they went to Texas, Delores won four pool tournament championships, shuffleboard tournaments, and card tournaments.
