Glawe, Henry Fredrick Christian 1846 – 1936

Obit: Henry Frederick Christian Glawe was born October 24, 1846, in Cuntzow Germany, and died April 3, 1936, at 1:30 p.m., as a result of a paralytic stroke which occurred March 29. He had reached the age of 89 years, five months and nine days.

In 1877 Mr. Glawe was united in marriage with Miss Wilhelmina Schrader. To this union ten children more born, two of them, Herman and Arthur, having preceded their father in death. His wife died August 20, 1925. The surviving children are Mrs. Charles Lahrs, Mrs. Henry Seeland, and Charles Glawe of Boardman township; Mrs. John Koss of Mendon township; John Glawe of Cox Creek township; Albert Glawe of Wagner township; Henry Glawe of Britt, [Iowa], and Mrs. Fred Knoke of Elkader.

The deceased came to this country in the year 1888 and for the first two years made his home with his brother John. Two years later, in 1890, Mr. Glawe purchased a 40- acre farm near Clayton Center. Since 1912 he made his home with his son Charles.

Mr. Glawe had four brothers and two sisters, who preceded him in death. Besides the above named children, forty grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren remain to mourn his loss.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 6, at the home of his son, Charles Glawe, in this township, and at his church, the Zion's Evangelical Lutheran church at Clayton Center, the Rev. O. F. Melchert officiating.

Pallbearers were Edwin Glawe, Roy Glawe, Harvey Glawe, Lloyd Glawe, John Glawe and Carl Glawe, all grandsons of the deceased.
