Ronald Hofer, Luana, Iowa, April 13, 2013
Ronald W. Hofer, 78, Luana, Iowa, died Saturday, April 13, 2013, at the Good Samaritan Center, Waukon, Iowa. He was born on September 29, 1934 to Melbert and Marjorie (Walter) Hofer in Clayton County, Iowa. Ronald graduated from Luana Consolidated Schools in 1954.
Ronald was united in marriage with Jean Walter on May 19, 1957 in Monona, Iowa. To this union five children were born, Kevin, Kim, Mark, Barb and Jolene. Ronald joined the United States Army in 1957 and was stationed in Stuttgart, Germany and was honorably discharged in 1959.
Ronald was an auto mechanic for Schave Garage in Luana for many years. In 1970 he started his own business, Hofer Repair, where he did small engine and radiator repair until 2011. He was a volunteer fireman in Luana, served on the Luana City Council, was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Luana and belonged to the AmVets. Ronald enjoyed gardening, working with flowers, collecting small engines and all kinds of antiques, old time dancing, he loved to cook, wine making and helping friends and family.
Ronald is survived by his wife, Jean of 55 years; his children Kevin (Debbie) Hofer of Walker, Louisiana, Kim Hofer of Waterloo, Iowa, Mark Hofer of Nevada, Iowa, Barb Hofer of Luana and Jolene Hofer of Charles City, Iowa; six grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; siblings, Philip (Millie) Hofer of Luana, Gloria (Henry) Lamphere of Epworth, Iowa, Richard (Velma) Hofer of Oregon, James (Sue) Hofer of Huntsville, Alabama, Susan (Ted) Hughes of Postville, Bonnie Lokenvitz of Mora, Minnesota and Michael (Lollie) Hofer of Omaha, Nebraska and many nieces and nephews.
Ronald was preceded in death by his parents, two daughters-in-law, Beverly Joan (Nelson) Hofer and Beverly Joan (Browning) Hofer.
Visitation will be Monday, April 15, 2013 from 4-7 pm at Schutte-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Postville, Iowa and one hour before services at the church on Tuesday.
Funeral Services will be at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 16, 2013 at St. John Lutheran Church, Luana, Iowa with Rev. Harold McMillin officiating.
Burial will follow at the United Brethren (UB) Wagner Township Cemetery, on Gunder Road.
