James Ronald Halverson, rural Elkader, Iowa, April 21, 2013

James Ronald Halverson, 74, rural Elkader, Iowa, died Sunday, April 21, 2013, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Jim was born on August 30, 1938, rural Elkader, Iowa, to Roy G. and Alvina (Ruroden) Halverson. Jim was baptized on November 3, 1938, at the Lutheran Parsonage in St. Olaf, Iowa and was later confirmed in 1953, at Highland Lutheran Church, rural Elkader, Iowa.

Jim graduated from Elkader High School with the class of 1956. Following high school, he served his country honorably in the United States Army from February of 1962 to February of 1964 as a Military Police Officer. Jim spent the rest of his life farming the family farm until his passing. He enjoyed hunting deer, turkey and mushrooms, fishing and gardening. He also loved spending time with his family and friends. He will be greatly missed by the many people who knew him.

Survivors include his siblings, Royale Daniels, Maynard, Lynn (Vernon) Ames, Marion, Jaynee (Phil) Ruckdashel, Elgin, Gary (Carolyn) Halverson, Tahlequah, OK and Larry (Kristin) Halverson, Bastrop, TX and his many nieces and nephews.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Alvina Halverson and one nephew, Gary James Halverson.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 25, 2013, from 3-8 p.m. at the Leonard – Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Elgin, Iowa. Visitation will also be held one hour before services at the church on Friday.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, April 26, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Highland Lutheran Church, rural Elkader, Iowa. The Rev. Jerome Godson will officiate.

Burial will follow in Highland Lutheran Cemetery, rural Elkader, Iowa, with military honors.

Leonard – Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Elgin, Iowa, is in charge of arrangements.
