Life Sketch of Mrs. Betsy Mork
Mrs. Betsy Mork, daughter of Asle Olson Holm and Sigrid Olson Henslebroten, was born March 18, 1870, in Marion township, Clayton county. Early in life she was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at the Marion Lutheran church. She remained faithful to her church and was a loyal supporter of this church until her death.

She was united in marriage to Knudt E. Mork, Feb. 15, 1890, at West Union. Their home was blessed with twelve children, namely, Rosina, Alma, Enock, Sophia, Clara, Abel, Henry, Reuben, Ida, Emma, Ruth and Kenneth, all surviving her.

Mr. and Mrs. Mork resided on the old Mork homestead until the year 1904, when they moved in what is now known as the [illegible] Mork farm. Here they built... [large smudge in typeset] ... until they retired in the [smudge] ... to Elgin where they purchased their present home.

Besides the care and love she gave to her own family she also gave aid and comfort to her husband's aged mother, Rangde Mork and his two brothers, Ole and Peter Mork during the declining years of their lives. Her numberless acts of kindness and of love among her friends and neighbors will leave a host of memories that will be forever cherished.

On May 8, 1935, she mourned the death of her husband, whom she had so tenderly cared for during two years of invalidism.

Mrs. Mork suffered a heart ailment in January from which she never fully recovered and on the morning of May 13, 1944, death quietly claimed her at the age of seventy-four years, one month and twenty-three days.

She leaves to mourn her departure her twelve children, forty-one grandchildren, five great grandchildren, two brothers, Tom and Lucas, one half brother, Otto Olson, three half sisters, Mary, Ellen and Clara and a step mother, Mrs. Helena Olson, as well as many nieces, nephews and other relatives, and a host of friends.

Blessed be her beautiful memory.

Funeral services were held from the home at 1 o'clock, May 16, followed by services at the Marion Lutheran church at 2 o'clock. Rev. S.J. Strandjord officiated. The music consisted of selections by the church choir and solos by L.O. Reierson and Mrs. Woodrow Reed. Interment was made in the Marion church cemetery. The pall bearers were six nephews, Carl Torkelson, Alfred Jensen, Selmer Holm, Merrill Olson, Clarence Torkelson and Normal Olson.

Friends and relatives from a distance who attended the funeral were: Mrs. Effie Olson of Hurno, S.D., Mr. and Mrs. Pete Opperud of Nora Springs, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Gogg of Clarksville, Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Reinhart of West Union, Mrs. Henry Thompson of Eagle Grove, Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Jensen of Oelwein, Mr. and Mrs. Lucas Olson of Clermont, Mr. and Mrs. Milton Nelson of Monona and Mrs. Oscar Torkelson of Farmersburg.
