Virgil Kurth, Monona, Iowa, March 5, 2013

Virgil Karl Kurth, 91, passed away on Tuesday, March 5, 2013 at his home in Monona.

Virgil, the son of Fred and Cora (Henkes) Kurth, was born February 12, 1922 at his parent's farm in Clayton County. He attended Eno School, south of Luana.

Virgil was united in marriage with Gertrude Lenth on October 29, 1942 in Monona. To this union, 3 sons were born, Ronald, Keith and Donald. Virgil and Gertrude farmed near Farmersburg, Iowa until 1970. They then moved to Monona and Virgil did carpentry work, drove school bus for the MFL Community Schools, drove a bulk milk truck and helped numerous farmers. Virgil needed to be busy and worked until he was seventy years old.

Virgil is survived by his sons: Ronald (Jean) of Cleveland, Tennessee, Keith of Iowa City, Iowa, and Donald (Edith) of Brunswick, Georgia; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and one brother, Dale (Isabel) of Monona.

Virgil was preceded in death by his wife, Gertrude; his parents, Fred and Cora Kurth; a half-brother and sister-in-law, Eldon (Ella) Kurth; a half-sister and brother-in-law, Irene (Lawrence) Dorcas and a daughter-in-law, Sam Kurth.

Visitation will be held on Friday, March 8, 2013, from 4-7 p.m. at the Leonard – Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Monona, Iowa, and one hour before services at the church on Saturday.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, March 9, 2013, at 11 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church, Farmersburg, Iowa. The Rev. Dr. Jennifer Edinger will officiate.

Burial will follow in the St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery, Monona, Iowa.

Leonard – Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Monona, Iowa, is in charge of arrangements.
