Ila M. Chickering, 94, died Thursday, Dec. 30, 2004, in Northgate Care Center following a lengthy illness. Services 11 a.m. Monday, Martin Funeral Home, Waukon. Burial: Monona Cemetery, Monona. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at Martin Funeral Home.
Survivors include two daughters, Dorothy Thompson of Stoughton, Wis. and Joyce Lyons of Waukon; and son, Eugene Chickering of Harlan.

Ila M. Chickering, age 94, of Waukon, Iowa died Thursday, December 30, 2004 at Northgate Care Center in Waukon. Funeral services were held Monday, January 3, 2005 at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon with Rev. Lynn G. Groe officiating. Burial was in the Monona Eastside City Cemetery, Monona, Iowa.
Ila Maude was born December 26, 1910 in rural Monona, Iowa, the daughter of Emil and Maude (Downing) Schiff. She was baptized and confirmed at Garden City Methodist Church in Monona. Ila attended rural country schools in the Monona area and graduated from Monona High School in 1928.
On September 7, 1929 she married Sidney Louis Chickering at the Methodist Church parsonage in Waukon. They lived in Waukon, Iowa, Winona, Minnesota, and St. Paul, Minnesota before settling in Monona for 53 years. The past several years Ila had been a resident of Northgate Care Center in Waukon. She was a wonderful baker and talented with crochet work. Ila loved to travel out west, fish, and watch sports on TV, especially the Iowa Hawkeyes.
Ila is survived by three children: Dorothy Thompson of Stoughton, Wisconsin, Eugene Chickering and special friend Judy Ball of Harlan, Iowa, and Joyce (Frank) Lyons of Waukon; 19 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Sidney who died in 1997; a sister Florence Kurth; a brother Burnell Schiff; a son-in-law Virgil Thompson; a daughter-in-law Marlene Chickering and three grandchildren. Honorary casketbearers were staff members from Northgate Care Center. Casketbearers were her grandchildren.
