John H. Johnson, son of Halvor Johnson and Bergit Nelson, was born in Marion township, Clayton county, Nov. 19, 1879. He was baptized Dec. 26, 1879, in the Marion Lutheran church and confirmed in the Norway church on June 12, 1913. He was united in marriage to Luina Wikan by Rev. Bursett.
He leaves to mourn his departure one brother, Emil Johnson of Clermont. He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, two brothers and two sisters.
John grew to manhood in Marion township where he lived until 1913. At this time he moved to Highland township where he farmed until 1938, when he suffered a stroke, from which he never fully recovered. He had a second stroke in 1940 and had been bedfast since in the homes of Clifford Larson, John Wold and Herman Stendal. The last two years of his life he spent in the home of his brother, Emil, in Clermont.
He passed away peacefully early Saturday morning, Feb. 16, 1946, at the age of sixty-six years, two months and twenty-eight days.
Funeral services were held at 2 o'clock at the Highland Lutheran church on Feb. 19, Rev. A.O. Nesset officiating. Pallbearers were Albert Larson, Olavus Larson, Halvor Thompson, Henry R. Larson, John Erickson and Louis Gregerson. Interment was made in the Highland cemetery. Those from a distance who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Herman Stendal and Harold Wikan of Waukon.

We wish to express our sincere thanks and appreciation to our relatives, friends and neighbors for the sympathy extended us during the illness and death of our brother and uncle, John H. Johnson. Especially do we wish to thank Rev. Nesset for his comforting words, Mrs. Orville Larson as organist, Mrs. Carl Torkelson as soloist, and those who gave floral offerings and gifts in memorium.
