Mrs. Edward P. Larson, nee Gunild Thompson, was born on Dec. 24, 1867, on the farm where her parents had settled a few years before when they immigrated from Norway. She was baptized in infancy and later confirmed in the Lutheran faith by the late Rev. Ole Waldeland, at the Marion Lutheran church.
She remained true to her faith through life and passed on to her reward on Sept. 9, 1940, at the age of seventy-two years, nine months and fifteen days.
In 1887, she was married to Thor Knudson. They moved to Wadena, where Mr. Knudson was engaged as a blacksmith and wagon maker. To this union were born five children, four girls and one boy. Only one daughter, Lena, survives, the rest dying in infancy. In August, 1896, Mr. Knudson was laid to rest. The next year she and her daughter moved back to Highland township and lived with her father.
On May 23, 1899, she was united in marriage to Edward P. Larson of this locality. To this union were born five children. Peter, the eldest, and Mabel, Mrs. Clifford Burrell of Jesup, preceded their mother in death. Surviving are Lena, Mrs. H.O. Thompson, of Eagle Grove; Cora, Mrs. Sam Allen, of Toronto, Canada; and Orwald and Elmer, of this locality; also nine grandchildren, and two brothers, Stener and Halvor Thompson; two cousins, Thore Thompson of Wadena and Hans Hanson of St. Olaf.
Mr. and Mrs. Larson settled on the farm where they lived all these years except from 1928 to 1935, when they lived in Elkader.
Funeral services were held at the Highland Lutheran church on Wednesday, Sept 11, conducted by the pastor, Rev. E.E. Ramsey. Casketbearers were Oscar Benson, Olavus H. Larson, Adolph Larson, Louie Gregerson, Alfred Cook and Clarence Torkelson. Interment was made in the Highland cemetery.
