JOANNE SUCKOW DIES FOLLOWING AUTO ACCIDENT
A Postville woman died Monday from injuries she suffered following a two-vehicle accident Nov. 1.
Mrs. Ray (Joanne) Suckow died at LaCrosse Lutheran Hospital in Wisconsin, where she was taken following an accident in which the car she was riding in collided with a rendering truck.
The accident happened around 3 p.m. Tuesday, seven and one half miles southwest of Waukon, according to a report by the Iowa Highway Patrol on file at the Allamakee County Sheriff's office.
Suckow was a passenger in a 1983 Buick driven by her daughter Penny, 17, also of Postville. The Suckows were traveling north on county blacktop W-60, the report says, when a rendering truck traveling west on a gravel road adjacent to W-60 failed to yield at a stop sign.
Following the accident, the Suckows and the truck's driver, Allan Busta, 21, Waterloo, were taken to Veterans Memorial Hospital, Waukon. Joanne was rushed to the trauma center in LaCrosse. Penny was admitted to the Waukon hospital and Busta was not admitted. Penny was released a few days later.
Joanne remained in critical condition in the intensive care unit at LaCrosse until her death Monday.
As of Monday afternoon, no charges in the accident were on file at the Allamakee Sheriff's office or the Iowa Highway Patrol Office in Oelwein.
The accident report says the 1983 Buick was totaled and the rendering truck sustained heavy damage.
Services for Joanne Suckow will be Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville. Burial will be in the Postville Cemetery. Friends may call Wednesday afternoon at Schutte's Funeral Home.
