Funeral services for Mrs. Arno H. Oelke, 69, were held Monday afternoon at 1:30 o’clock from
Schultz Funeral home to St. Paul’s Ev. Lutheran church at 1:45 o’clock with Rev. R. C. Schlueter
officiating.

Burial was in the City cemetery.

Mrs. Oelke died early Thursday morning, Dec. 23, from a heart ailment as a result of suffering for
years from asthma. Since last October her condition grew steadily worse.

As Frances she was born the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Haeuschen as a twin, Feb 20, 1879,
at Garnavillo. The twin sister died in infancy. When she was 2 years old, her parents moved to
Farmersburg, where her father died a year later. He was by trade a blacksmith and had served his
country in the Civil war.

She graduated from Elkader high school after which she taught school for three terms.

She was married to Arno H. Oelke, Nov. 1, 1899, at her parental home in Farmersburg by Rev.
Somerlad of Garnavillo. They lived in Farmersburg until the spring of 1932, when they moved to
Monona. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and the Woman’s Relief corps.

Besides her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Paul Swanson of Maxwell; two sons,
Donald of Cassville, Wis., and Rev. Otto of Hanover, Kan., one sister, Minnie Haeuschen of
Farmersburg; eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

In addition to her twin sister and parents, she was preceded in death by three other sisters.

Music at the services was provided by a quartet composed of Mrs. Clarence Neverman, Mrs. R. C.
Schlueter, Marvin Kurdelmeyer, and Harold Wienke. Mrs. George Heins Jr. was the organist.

Pallbearers were: R. C. Huebner of Postville, Elmer Bente of Elkader, Charles Hinsch of McGregor, Fred Tayek, John Reidel, and H. T. Orr.

Those from a distance who attended the funeral services were Mr. and Mrs. E. L. Gifford of
Dubuque, and J. Schweikert of Guttenberg.
