Wilhelmine Hauschen was born in Lvestine, Prussia, twelve miles from Berlin, on Dec 29, 1842. She was the youngest daughter of Christian Komneman and Arno (Meyer) Komneman. She was
baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church and received her early education in the village school
of Germany. In the year 1864, in the company with her older sister and bother-in-law, she immigrated to America coming direct to Detroit, Michigan.

On April 1, 1866, at Detroit, Mich., she was united in marriage to Henry Hauschen. Shortly after their marriage they located at Clayton, Iowa, but resided here only a short time, then locating at Garnavillo, Iowa, where her husband followed the trade of Blacksmith. They resided in Garnavillo 10 years and in the year 1878 they came to Farmersburg, Iowa, where her husband resumed his trade until death on Dec. 18, 1878. To this union seven daughters were born, one dying in infancy (Ann Wilhelmina Mathilda) and Katie dying at the age of 3 1/2 years.

Those surviving her death are Mrs. Mahal Reinke, Monona, Iowa; Miss Minnie Hauschen and Mrs.
Arno Oelke, Farmersburg; Mrs. P. C. Olmsted, Deer Creek, Oklahoma, Mrs. John Reinke, Amsterdam, Missouri. She is also survived by 18 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren, two
nephews, John Hauschen of Clayton, Iowa, and Geo.. Hauschen of California. She was a member of
the “Franen Verin” of St. John’s Lutheran church in which she took an active part until she lost her eyesight in 1922 since that time she has been totally blind.

She was always able to be about until October 1926, after that she was confined to her bed until her death on Dec. 29, 1927 at 4:45 p.m. on her 85th birthday. She was very patient, seldom
complained of her affliction, only sometimes wishing for her eyesight. She is the last surviving member of her family of three brothers and one sister. If she had lived until April 2, 1928, she would have lived in Farmersburg 30 years.

Funeral services were held in the German Lutheran church Sunday afternoon by Rev. Tysdal of St.
Olaf in the English, and Rev. Wm. Kraft in German. The songs were rendered by the St. Olaf choir. She was laid to rest in the Farmersburg-Wagner cemetery.
