Joseph C. Seybert was born in Madison county, Indiana, August 3, 1849, and died at his home in Postville, Iowa, December 16, 1924, a the age of 75 years, four months and 14 days.
January 1, 1869 he was united in marriage with Lydia A. Gano, and to this union eight children were born, four of whom survive - Brad Seybert, Mrs. Arthur Harrington and Mrs. Fred Gordon of Postville; and Fred Seybert of Elkader - and who with the wife and mother are left to mourn his loss.
The above is in brief the life story of a man who sincee 1864 has been a resident of this city and locality, and whose life has been an open book to all. He was the last survivor of his father's family. Until eight years ago he followed the occupation of farmer, occupying the old homestead about a mile and a half southeast of this city in Clayton county, at which time he moved to Postville to retire. He was an honest and upright man in all his dealings, and being of a jovial and social disposition drew about him an ever-widening circle of friends, who will sincerely mourn his passing and whose sympathies will go out in unstinted measure to the sorrowing family.
The funeral was held from the home at one o'clock this afternoon, conducted by Rev. R.F. Galloway of the Presbyterian church. Interment at Grand Meadow cemetery.
