Lee Charles Ball

Funeral services were held Thursday, January 2, [1975] at St. John Lutheran Church, Luana, for Lee Charles Ball, who died December 30, [1974] in the Elkader hospital. He had been hospitalized there since Christmas day, when he suffered a stroke. The Rev. Emil Reinking officiated.

Pallbearers were Merle Miller, Eldon Kregal, Edwin McKee, Roger Miller, Lyle Pape and Milo Brainard. Burial was in Garnavillo City Cemetery.

Lee was born the son of Charles and Herrietta (Willie) Ball at Garnavillo on April 23, 1896. He was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran church, Elkport, Iowa by Pastor Paulsen. He received his elementary education in the Garnavillo community.

On December 23, 1919, he was united in marriage to Irene Charlotte Fascher at Garnavillo. To this union five children were born.

The couple lived in the Garber-Garnavillo communities until 1933. At that time they moved northwest of Luana in Allamakee county and transferred their membership to St. John Lutheran Church, Luana. They remained on the farm until 1963 when they retired to Monona. They observed their golden wedding anniversary in 1969.

Survivors include his wife, Irene; one son, Marvin of Waterville; 4 daughters, Mrs. Norman (Gertrude) Schultz of Castalia; Mrs. Keith (Elaine) Wilkens of Postville; Mrs. Ralph (Vernelle) Hornberger of Alexander, Minnesota and Mrs. James (Sharon) Schultz of Oregon, Illinois; 3 sisters, Mrs. Ben Schwichtenberg; Mrs. Herman Lundt; Mrs. Harold Reiselman; one brother, Earl Ball; 13 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
