Agnes Noretta Barnes
Agnes Noretta Barnes, daughter of Olaf and Lettie (Malmquist) Ruroden, was born Nov. 24, 1918 in Clayton County near Elgin, Iowa. She died Thursday, Feb. 17, 1994 in St. Luke's Hospital at Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She was 75.
She was baptized and confirmed at the Highland Lutheran Church, and attended the Spring Valley School in Marion Township. On May 30, 1942 Agnes was married to Howard Bernard Barnes at Clayton Center, Iowa. To this union seven children were born. They lived in the St. Olaf area, then moved to their present home north of Monona, where they have lived for 30 years.
She is preceded in death by her parents, a son who was stillborn, one sister, Mabel (Mrs. Charles) Bergan, and 2 brothers, Lloyd Ruroden and Maynard Ruroden.
Surviving are her husband, Howard, of Monona; 6 daughters, Allenor (Wilbur) Selck of Atkins, Sherry (Robert) Griffith of Marion, Dorothy (Steve) Wilson of Dyersville, Karen (Frank) Miller of Decorah and Debbie Barnes of Hiawatha; 15 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; and 2 sisters, Alvina (Roy) Halverson of Clermont and Lyla (Elmer) Rodas of Edgewood.
Funeral services were held Monday, Feb. 21 in the Marion Lutheran Church, Gunder, the Rev. Tom Jones officiating. Special music was provided by David, Kim and Kara Wilker. The Schutte Funeral Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the Marion Cemetery. Casket bearers were James and Darrin Steele, Douglas Miller, Wayne and David Selck, Braden Griffith and Korey Wilker.
