Clayton County Pioneer Dead.
Mrs. Helen Mar Burgess, a pioneer of Clayton county, passed away on Thursday Feb. 11th at her home in Luana. She was born near Dunbar, Scotland, Nov. 5th, 1824, and came to this country with her parents at the age of 12 years. In 1851 she was married to Wm. Burgess. In 1850 she came to Clayton county and settled where the town of Luana now stands. The funeral was held at the home Saturday and a large number of friends from the surrounding country gathered at the home and followed to the cemetery west of town, where she was buried beside loved ones gone before. The services were conducted by Rev. W. A. Gibbons pastor of the M.E. church.

—Mrs. Helen Burgess, who came to Clayton county in 1850 and located near the present town of Luana, died on the 11th inst. age 80 years. She was Scotch born and came to this country with her parents when twelve years old.
