Rites Held For Lawrence Block
Lawrence Fred Block, son of Henry W. and Elizabeth (Harnack) Block, was born September 25, 1906, in Grand Meadow Township, Clayton county, Iowa. He was baptized in St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville, on November 11, 1906, and confirmed on September 11, 1921. He died on December 25, 1965, in LaCrosse Lutheran Hospital after a brief illness, at the age of 59 years, and 3 months.
He was married on December 14, 1927, to Hulda Kuhse, and to this union were born 5 children. The family farmed near Postville, and during the last 10 years the deceased did carpentry work. He was a life-time member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, and a member of the Iowa Order of Odd-Fellows.
He was preceded in death by his father and a son, Lyle. Surviving are his wife and mother, a daughter Eileen (Mrs. Harry Kessel) of La Crosse, Wisconsin, sons Marvin, Curtis and Duane; 12 grandchildren; a sister Esther (Mrs. Gilbert Meyer) of Postville and a brother, Emil, of Cedar Rapids.
Services were held Wednesday, December 29, in St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church with burial in the Postville Cemetery.
