Delbert Henry George Breitsprecher
Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at St. John's Lutheran Church in Luana for Delbert Breitsprecher who passed away October 22 at Independence following a heart attack. The Rev. L. W. Reuther, pastor of St. John's, was in charge of the rites; burial was in Lutheran cemetery in Luana.
Delbert Henry George Breitsprecher, son of Henry and Bertha (Wilker) Breitsprecher, was born July 31, 1908, in Elkader. On September 27, 1908 he was baptized in Zion Lutheran Church in Clayton Center and on March 25, 1923 was confirmed in the same church. His early years were spent in and around Clayton Center. He attended the rural schools in that vicinity.
On July 3, 1944, he was united in marriage with Miss Ruby Mueller at Elkader. After marriage he lived on a farm near Luana. For several years he was also employed in the Luana Creamery until 1947 when he suffered a fractured leg. In 1951 he moved to his present home in Luana where he lived until his death.
May 19, 1942 he entered into service and spent a year in the New Hebrides in the South Pacific. He was discharged November 20, 1943 and was an active member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Postville.
The deceased had been in failing health since June, 1953 and was hospitalized in various hospitals. He passed away in Independence at 9:30 a.m. Monday, October 22, having attained the age of 54 years, two months and 21 days.
Two brothers, in infancy, preceded him death. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Ruby Breitsprecher of Luana; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Breitsprecher of Elkader; 5 sisters, Mrs. Fred (Ruby) Klingman of Arlington, Mrs. Lavern (Verni) Fehlhafer of Springville, Mrs. Earl (Marie) Fischer of Garnavillo, Mrs. Harold (Ivanell) Mueller of Garnavillo, and Mrs. Paul (Margenell) Hansel of Elkader; one brother, Gender of Arlington; 35 nephews and nieces and 22 great nephews and nieces.
