Linus Joseph Berns
Funeral services for Linus Joseph Berns, 75, of Monona were held Friday morning, Nov. 15, at 10 o'clock at St. Patrick's Catholic church in Monona with Father Donald Heineman officiating at the funeral mass. Burial was in St. Patrick's cemetery at Monona.
Mr. Berns became ill Monday, Nov. 11 and then was taken to the Postville hospital where he died the following morning, Tuesday, Nov. 12, about 3 o'clock, due to a heart attack.
He was born May 25, 1893, a son of Joseph and Anna (Nieland) Berns, on a farm near National and Garnavillo.
He was married to Lena Voss, Feb. 6, 1918, at St. Mary's Catholic church in Guttenberg. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary this year.
After their marriage, they farmed near National and then moved on their farm near Luana in 1928. In 1945 they retired in Monona.
Preceding him in death were his parents; one brother, Alex; and 3 sisters, Mrs. Edmund (Clara) Ruff, Sr.; Mrs. Walter (Frances) Matt, and Hildegard.
Surviving are his wife, a daughter, Mrs. Leo (Rose Marie) Viazny; sone-in-law, two grandchildren, Joseph and Mary Ann Viazny; and one brother, Albert of Garnavillo.
Pallbearers were Clarence Meyer, Irwin Huinker, Carl Etteldorf, Herbert H. Lenth, Vern Haberichter, Eugene Voss, Vern Zieman and Joseph Voss.
