Alice Geneva Bernhard

Alice Geneva Bernhard, 78, daughter of Knute and Anne (Wettleson) Olson, was born Dec. 18, 1913, in the St. Olaf-Gunder area. She died Monday, Feb. 10, 1992, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids, IA.

She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She attended country school until the 8th grade. Alice was married to Howard Bernhard on July 28, 1934 at Galena, IL. They had 4 sons. She was a homemaker and farmed with her husband in Fairview Township.

Preceding her in death were per parents; her husband, Howard, who died Dec. 5, 1987; and 3 sisters: Arlene Olson, Norma Thurn and Edna Roethler.

Survivors include 4 sons: Roger (Janet) Bernhard, Dean (Linda) Bernhard, Russ (Marlene) Bernhard and Donald (Theresa) Bernhard, all of Monona; 8 grandchildren: Kimberly Dickey, Lacy Rumph, Julie McCauley, Jess, Kelly, Josh, Allison and Andrew Bernhard; 3 great grandchildren: Beau Dickey and Dylan and Dustin Rumph; 3 brothers: Gerhard Olson of Prairie du Chien, WI, Vernie Olson of Volga, IA and Leo Olson of Elgin, IA; and a host of relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Feb. 12, 1992, at 11 a.m. at the Garden City United Methodist Church, Monona. The Rev. Tom Mattson officiated. Burial was in the Monona City Cemetery, Monona. Schultz's Funeral Service, Monona, was in charge of services. Pallbearers were Larry, Dennis and Ronald Olson and Jess and Josh Bernhard and Kevin McCauley.
