Ruey Boland
Ruey Rosalia Boland was born February 1, 1896, at Elkader, to Mike and Catherine (Uriel) Regan. She was raised and educated in the area where she graduated from Elkader High School. She attended college in Prairie du Chien, WI for a short time.
She was united in marriage to Phillip Boland in May of 1924. Eight children were born to this union. They lived and farmed near Elkader, during their married life. Phillip died August 30, 1979. Ruey remained on the farm until March of 1987. At this time she entered the Elkader Care Center where she remained until her death, Thursday, No. 15, 1993.
She is survived by 3 sons: Edward of Elkader, Kenneth and James, both of Cedar Rapids; 3 daughters: Catherine (Bernard) Loftsgard of Elgin, Ruth Courtney of Decorah and Helen Elias of Des Moines; 15 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.
Besides her husband she was preceded in death by 2 sons: Jerry and John; granddaughter, Theresa Courtney; brother, John Regan and 3 sisters: Catherine, Dolores and Margaret Regan.
Mass of Resurrection was held Monday, Nov. 29, 1993, at 10:30 a.m. in St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Elkader. Celebrant was Rev. Thomas W. Rhomberg.
Casket bearers were John Orr, Patrick Finley, Leon Welsh, Edward Uriell, Daniel Collins and John Miehe.
Interment was in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery, Elkader.
