CAROLINE OVERBECK FUNERAL SERVICES

Funeral services for Caroline M. Overbeck, 92, were held Thursday morning, Aug. 14, 1969 at 10:30 a.m. at St. John Lutheran church in Luana with Rev. Michael Sherer and Rev. Fred F. Darnauer officiating.

The body lay in state at the church from 9:30 o'clock in the morning until the time of the services. Burial was in the Luana City cemetery.

Miss Overbeck died Monday evening, Aug. 11, 1969 at the Good Samaritan home in Postville.

She was born June 3, 1877 in Grand Meadow Township, one of 12 children, a daughter of Christav Henry and Caroline, nee Bierbaum, Overbeck.

In infancy she was baptized by Rev. Gass of St. Paul Lutheran church at Postville, where she was also confirmed. From the time of its organization, she has been a member of St. John Lutheran church in Luana. She also sang in the choir and served as organist, and was the oldest living original member of St. John church until she died.

She clerked in dry goods stores in Postville, Rochester and St. Paul, Minn., and Canada.

In October, 1962, she took up residence at the Luana Rest home, where she lived until she was taken to the Golden Age Custodial home at McGregor last March and later to the Good Samaritan home at Postville in May.

Preceding her in death were her parents, eight sisters and one brother.

Surviving are one sister, Mrs. Arthur (Amelia) Berg of Luana; a brother, Ben of San Jose, Calif., and a nephew, Donald Overbeck of Preston.

Music at the services was provided by the choir of St. John Lutheran church. Helmuth Landt was the organist.

Pallbearers were: Adrian Riveland, Emil Aulerich, Carl Bundrick, Louis Wagner, Donald McShane, and Vern Zieman.
