FUNERAL SERVICES FOT HAMER LEWIS HELD HERE SUNDAY
John Hamer Lewis was born to Anneliza and Aaron Lewis on March 26, 1882 at Osterdock, Iowa. He was the seventh child in a family of eight. His early life was spent in the vicinity of Osterdock and Edgewood, Iowa. On February 14, 1906 he was married to Emma Hesner. To this union two sons were born, Capt. Henry Lewis of Camp Carson, Colorado, and Herman Lewis of Edgewood. His wife died June 22, 1915.

On January 18, 1922, Mr. Lewis was married to Dollie Wandell Goodman, who survives him.
He was engaged in farming near Edgewood until 1928 when he moved to Manchester, Iowa. Because of ill health he returned to Edgewood in 1942. He became seriously ill three weeks ago, and on June 3rd he was taken to St. Luke's Hospital at Cedar Rapids, where he passed away that day at 5:20 p.m.

Besides his wife and two sons, Mr. Lewis leaves to mourn his death four sisters, Mrs. Angie Sweaney, Decoma, Okla., Mrs. Martha Purdy of Covina, Calif., Mrs. Mary Saylor, Hannibal, Wis. and Mrs. Emma Zearley of Edgewood; one brother George Lewis of Edgewood, and six grandchildren.
A sister, Mrs. Lizzie Molvitz, Sheboygan, Wis., and a brother, Andrew Lewis of Hannibal, Wis., preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held in the Methodist Church Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock in charge of the pastor, the Rev. Thomas H. Smith. Music for the service was sung by D. E. Rhines, C. J. Rulon and Mrs. W. J. Miller, Jr., with Miss Jennie Forward at the organ. Casket attendants were R. C. Cocking, Fred Galer, F. A. Robinson, August Gerdes, Dr. F. H. Stalnaker and Lyle Fisher. Burial was made in the Edgewood Cemetery.
The sorrowing family has the sincere sympathy of the entire community.
Among the many who came to attend the funeral services for Hamer Lewis Sunday afternoon were these from a distance: His son, Capt. Henry Lewis of Camp Carson, Colo., Mrs.Lewis and their daughters, Joyce and Gloria of Davenport, Mrs Mary Saylor, Mrs. Nettie Lewis and Mrs. Anna White and little son of Hannibal, Wis., and Mrs. Angie Sweeney of Decoma, Okla.
