GEO. HOBBS, FORMER EDGEWOOD RESIDENT, DIES AT BETTENDORF
The following is taken from a Cherokee paper. Mr. Hobbs was a former resident of Edgewood.George Hobbs, son of Margaret and Samuel Hobbs, was born at Ottumwa, Iowa, August 23, 1865 and passed away on December 12, 1943 at the Masonic Sanatarium at Bettendorf, Iowa. He was 78 years, three months and 20 days old. In his youth the family moved to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where he grew to manhood.
On June 8, 1899 he was united in marriage to Lillian Perry of Edgewood. To this union five children were born, Margaret (Mrs. O.B. Schlotterbeck of Montgomery, Ala.), Ruth (Mrs. Max Gilbert) of Cherokee, Iowa, Lawrence, who passed away on June 25, 1929, Earl Hobbs and Gayle (Mrs. Rex Mahoney) of Cherokee; also six grandchildren, Dean Gilbert in the armed forces, Galen Gilbert of Cherokee, Lawerence Hobbs of Pecos, Texas, Verlyn and Donna Rae Mahoney of Cherokee, and Kay Earleen Hobbs of Cherokee.
During his active life Mr. Hobbs followed the profession of funeral director and embalmer. For over 40 years he has been a member of the Masonic fraternity. About four years ago he was stricken with paralysis and entered the sanitarium at Bettendorf, where he was cared for until his death, which was the result of a stroke.Funeral services were held at the Boothby Funeral Home, Thursday afternoon, with Rev. E. Stanworthy of Aurlie in charge. His grandson, Galen Gilbert, sang "Abide with Me" and "Show Me How to Go".
