This obit is very worn and torn, so I will do my best to get it all correct.

MRS. BYRON PEET DIES AT EDGEWOOD
The mortal life of Mrs. Martha Ann Peet came to a peaceful close at nine o'clock Thursday evening, April 6, 1944 at the age of 85 years, three months and 26 days. Her knowledge of God's love for His earthly children made her certain of a new and glorious experience awaiting her after death. This certainty was shown in the text she herself chose for her funeral service--"I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith; henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness."

Martha Ann Jones was born on Decmember 10, 1858 in Joe Davies County, Illinois, the daughter of Alexander and Ann Cook Jones. When a small girl the family moved to Iowa, settling at Coffin's Grove in Delaware County. Sometime later a move was made to Gatesville, now Wood. Her school days were profitably spent in the school at Gatesville and in this same school some 60 years later she delighted to attend the annual reunions of pupils and teachers and take part in their programs.

On December 14, 1881, at Manchester, Iowa, Martha Ann Jones and Byron W. Peet were united in marriage and to their union two sons were born. For 49 of the 62 years Mr. and Mrs. Peet were permitted to share their lives together their home was on their farm southeast of town where they began their married life. With the exception of a few years in the farming community of St. Sebald and three years in Edgewood. In 1930 they sold the farm and retired to their little home in Edgewood, close by the church.

When a young woman of 18 years at a revival meeting at Gateville, our departed loved one was converted under the preaching of the Rev. Mrs. N. W. Bixby. Soon thereafter she was received into membership in the Edgewood Congregational Church and she continued a faithful member until the close of her life.

Surviving to mourn her passing are the aged and beloved husband, their two sons, Charles and Frank, and three granddaughters, Mabel of Waterloo, Blanche of Guttenberg, and (Torn)??ace of Edgewood, in whose (torn) she was daily interested.

Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Clara McCartney of Hannibal, Wis., and Mrs. Emma Halfhill of Edgewood, and one brother, David Jones of Washington, D.C., besides several nieces and nephews. Her parents (torn) sisters preceded her in death.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock in the Congrgational Church in charge the pastor, the Rev. W. B-H. O'N??ll. Mrs. F. R. Minkler sang, "Face to Face" at the beginning of the service and Mrs. Minkler and Mrs. F. I. Smith sang "Sweetly Resting" at the close. Miss Margaret Kirk was the accompanist.

The many baskets and sprays of beautiful flowers on the alter and casket were particularly appropriate for one who had so loved flowers during her life. Casket attendants were Joe Sharp, E. E. Halfhill, O. H. Berens, J. J. Tyrrell, Lloyd Gates and Alfred Funk.
Burial was made in the Edgewood cemetery.

Attending the funeral from out of town were the granddaughters, Miss Mabel Peet of Waterloo and Miss Blanche Peet of Guttenberg, Mrs. Ethel McCune, Mrs. Charles Rose and Mrs. Verda Mrstik of Cedar Rapids, and Mrs. Flora White of Tujunga, Calif.
