Mrs. Buckman Last Rites Held

Funeral services for Mrs. Lois Buckman, nee Brownson, were held Wednesday afternoon, April 15, at 1:30 o'clock at St. John Lutheran church in Farmersburg with Rev. R. H. Steege officiating.

The body lay in state at the church from 12 o'clock noon until the time of the services. Burial was in the Garnavillo City cemetery.

Mrs. Buckman fell Saturday, April 11, and was taken to the hospital at Manchester, where she died Sunday morning, April 12, reaching the age of 86 years, 11 months, and 11 days.

She was born May 1, 1877, at the farm home in National as the daughter of Freeman and Rachel, nee Datisman, Brownson. She attended the rural school at National and also Upper Iowa University at Fayette, where she took an academic course for two years and an art course for two years.

She was married to John Henry Buckman at St. John Lutheran church in Dubuque, Dec. 27, 1922, by Rev. Samuel Salzman. They moved to their home in Farmersburg in 1924. Her husband died May 30, 1957.

Mrs. Buckman continued to live in her house until September 1963, when she moved to the Lutheran Home for the Aged in Strawberry Point, and made her home there.

She enjoyed a great circle of friends in Farmersburg and surrounding community. She truly enjoyed her friends and neighbors. She took a great interest in the affairs of the nation, state, and community. As long as her health permitted, she did a great deal.
