Lloyd Bigler

Funeral services for Lloyd Bigler were held Monday, April 30 at 11 a.m. in St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville. The Reverend Julius Peterson officiated. The Schutte Funeral Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the Postville Cemetery.

Lloyd Bigler, son of Henry and Anna (Swenson) Bigler, was born August 24, 1904 in Grand Meadow Township, Clayton County. He died at his home Thursday, April 26, 1984.

He was baptized and confirmed at the Marion Lutheran Church in Gunder and received his education at Grand Meadow School No. 3 in Clayton County.

On September 5, 1928 he was married to Muriel Mae Schweikert at the Marion Lutheran Church in Gunder. To this union 2 sons were born. They farmed in Grand Meadow Township all of their lives. In 1976 Muriel and Lloyd moved to their present home in Postville.

Lloyd was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville since 1938 and has served as a member of the Church Council. He was a Grand Meadow Township Assessor for many years and also served on the Election Board. He was a Township ASCS Committeeman and served on the Board of Directors for the Farm Bureau, the Postville Cooperative Creamery and the Farmers Cooperative Society. Lloyd was a sales representative in the Postville area for 10 years for the Northrup King Seed Company.

He is preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Lorence, and 2 sisters, Alma Heins and Mary Wettleson.

Surviving are his wife, Muriel; 2 sons, Lloyd M. and his wife Mavis, of Waverly and Michael Paul of Orlando, Florida; 4 grandchildren, Mark A. Bigler, Lori A. McDermott, and Lisa R. Rupiper and Matthew J. Bigler; 2 great grandchildren, Brad and Julie Bigler.
