Funeral services for Mrs. Muriel Bigler were held Friday, March 19, 1993 at 11 a.m. in St. Paul Lutheran Church at Postville. The Reverend Charles W. Miller officiated. The Schutte Funeral Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the Postville Cemetery.

Casket bearers were Alden "Jim" Nuehring, William Miene, Jr., Mervin Larson, Carman Swenson, Ted Feickert, Robert Dull, Elliot Nuehring, and Paul Welzel.

Honorary casket bearers were Bertie Waters, Louis McNally, Art Helgerson, Leo McNally, Cliff J. Olson and Bernard Waters.

Muriel Mae Bigler, daughter of Arthur Paul and Mary Elizabeth (Kafer) Schweikert, was born August 23, 1903 in Clayton County, near Elkport, Iowa. She passed away at her home in Postville on Tuesday, March 16, 1993. She had reached the age of 89 years, 6 months and 23 days.

She was baptized in 1910 by the Rev. Lindenberg and confirmed April 3, 1925 by the Rev. E. T. Finck. Muriel attended school at Elkport and graduated from the Guttenberg High School in May of 1922. She attended Iowa State Teachers College at Cedar Falls, Iowa for a short time and taught school for 6 years.

On September 5, 1928 Muriel was married to Lloyd Bigler at the Marion Lutheran Church in Gunder. To this union 2 sons were born. They farmed in Grand Meadow Township all of their lives. In 1976 Muriel and Lloyd moved to their present home in Postville.

Muriel was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville. She was one of the first Group Leaders, serving in that capacity for 8 years. She also loved history and wrote for the Clayton County History Book and the Clayton County School History Book. She was a member of the Home Garden Club since 1928, the Prosperous Ridge Club, a member of the Postville Historical Society and a past member of the Northern Clayton County Garden Club.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lloyd, who died April 26, 1984; and a brother, Arthur Schweikert.

Surviving are 2 sons, Lloyd M. and his wife Mavis, of Waverly and Michael Paul of Dallas, Texas; 4 grandchildren, Mark A. Bigler and his wife, Diane, of Ft. Madison, IA, Lori A. and her husband, Tim McDermott, and Lisa R. and her husband, Russ Rupiper, all of Omaha, NB, and Matthew J. Bigler and his wife, Kim, of Des Moines, IA; 6 great grandchildren, Brad and Julie Bigler, Alec and Adam McDermott, Lauren and Megan Rupiper; and a sister, Carmen Bensen of Salem, Oregon.
