At his home near Watson, Iowa, March 13, 1913, Stewart Ellenbolt passed peacefully away after a short illness of pneumonia, aged 89 years, 1 month and 15 days.
Stewart Ellenbolt, the subject of this sketch, was born in Toronto, Canada, January 29, 1825 and when a young man came to the United States locating near Brodhead, Wisconsin. There he was married to Helen McClintock Mitchell, coming to Clayton County, Iowa, where he has lived for 40 years.
He was a kind father, a good neighbor, was a man respected by all who knew him, honorable and upright in all his actions in life.
He leaves to mourn his departure two sisters, Mrs. Richard Cox of McGregor and Mrs. Nels McGhee of Hardin, Iowa; also three children, Retus Ellenbolt of Pleasant Ridge, Mrs. E.R. Collins of Monona and Mrs. Albert Albright of California; also three step-children John Mitchell of Monona, Pat Mitchell of S. Dakota and Miss Maggie Mitchell at home, besides twenty-two grandchildren and a host of friends.
The funeral was held at Monona March 15, Rev. Bird of the M.E. Church officiating. At the grave the services were conducted by the I.O.O.F. Lodge of which the deceased was a member.
