Mrs. Roy Robert (Effie Martins) Saacke
Funeral services for Effie Saacke were held Monday, March 8, 1993, 10:30 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church, Farmersburg. Pastor Ben Davis officiated. Organist was Mrs. Theresa Rodas. Honorary pallbearers were Janita Doeppke, Colleen Schellhammer, Ann Hoyem, Lynette Krambeer and Karman Crawley. Pallbearers were Kevin Nuehring, Arlen Nuehring, Lindsey Krambeer, Jay Hoyem, Jeff Hoyem, Lance Hoyem, and Christopher Saacke. Burial was in the Farmersburg-Wagner Cemetery, Farmersburg. Schultz's Funeral Home of Monona was in charge of services.
Effie Saacke was born Sept. 22, 1905, to parents, John and Mary Klinkenberg Martins, in Luana, Iowa. She received her education in Grand Meadow country school near Luana.
On Nov. 20, 1928 Effie was united in marriage to Roy Robert Saacke at the parsonage of Peace Church, Elkader, Iowa by Pastor C. H. Franke. To this union four children were born. The couple farmed near Farmersburg from 1928 to 1970. Roy died Feb. 1, 1970. Effie moved into Farmersburg where she lived until the fall of 1992.
Effie died March 4, 1993 at her daughter's home in Des Moines where she had been living because of failing health. Effie was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Farmersburg and a charter member of Gooding Better Neighbors.
Preceding her in death besides her husband were her parents; three brothers, Leska Martins, John Martins, Jr., and Gerwin Martins and three sisters, Anna Lenth, Mary Radloff and Elsie Tietz.
Surviving are three daughters, Dorothy (Mrs. Marlyn) Nuehring and Jeanette (Mrs. Luverne) Krambeer, both of Monona, and Ramona (Mrs. John) Hoyem of Des Moines; one son, Robert and his wife Joyce of Farmersburg; 12 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
