Oscar Awald Carlson
Services for Oscar Awald Carlson were held Friday, July 29, 1988, at 11 a.m. at the Garden City United Methodist Church, Monona. Rev. Gary Dobbins officiated. Melanie Nevermann was the organist. Special music by a quartet, John Wachter, Harlan Hass, David Schlitter and Kendall Benzing, was accompanied by Ramon Hass.
Schultz's Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. Burial was at the Monona City Cemetery.Oscar Awald Carlson was born Aug. 3, 1910, to Carl and Emma (Lindemann) Carlson, at their home on Swede Ridge south of McGregor. He died Tuesday, July 26, 1988 at Lutheran Hospital in LaCrosse, WI. He had been a resident at the Good Samaritan home in Postville since 1986.
He was baptized Sept. 18, 1910 by Rev. O. A. Henry and confirmed Sept. 6, 1925 by Rev. Titus A. Conrad in the McGregor Evangelical Lutheran Church. April 17, 1938, he joined Salem Evangelical Church and transferred to Pilgrim Evangelical Church on April 25, 1943.
On Feb. 12, 1936, he married Ethel Marfilius. The couple farmed near Farmersburg all their married life.
Preceding him in death were his parents, his wife, Ethel; 2 brothers, Harold and Carl Jr. and a sister, Alice Siegele.
Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Dwayne and Arah Carlson, St. Olaf; a daughter, Darlene Sass, Farmersburg; 6 grandchildren, three great grandchildren; 3 brothers, Emil, Postville, George, McGregor and Walter, Antioch, IL; 2 sisters, Ethel Palmer, Eastman, WI and Marie McMillin, Elkader.
Pallbearers were Carlyle Reeg, Lowell Carlson, Roger Palmer, Randy McMillin, Dennis Carlson, Steven Carlson and Harold Carlson.
